We have been invited to a real Texan Saturday event: Tubing!

I was quite confused as Hass asked me if we would like to go tubing with his associate Steve. What on earth is tubing, I wondered and got educated;

Wikipedia: Tubing (also known as inner tubing, “bumper tubing” or even toobing) is a recreational activity where an individual rides on top of an inner tube, either on water, snow, or through the air. The tubes themselves are also known as “donuts” or “biscuits” due to their shape.

I thought to my self, why not. Can’t be that bad, but I had all sorts of wild water rafting ideas in my head.

Meeting Steven, his wife and friend was a treat though and soon they explained, that it is basically nothing more than laying in a rubber inner tube, drink beer and get carried away by the river. At the end of the trip, you even get picked up by a buss and driven back to the starting point.

After meeting a few more of their friends and being welcomed – with that southern charm I read so much about – in their midst with hugs, red velvet muffins and jello shot unicorn meat, we finally set off to go downstream.

Nothing as wild as my imagination came up with happened, but a few tipsy tumbling tubers – beer and floating coolers are a big part of the tubing event – accidentally touching feet with strangers and one little sort of shoot halfway of the Comal River. It wasn’t necessary either. Floating in the river, talking, drinking blueberry juice just made it a great day. Floating Texans are really nice people, the greenery passing by was calming and the occasional turtle was piquing my interest. Also, our hosts made sure that we didn’t get too bored. I loved the day and was pleased that we agreed to have dinner with them someday soon.

Though it was overcast and we had loads of sun-protection on, I took a sunburn souvenir away from this day. Still, it didn’t quench the glow of the event.
