Confessions of a Serial Cheat

I started an affair nine years ago. I was hesitant at first, but my husband suggested I try it, and though I’m a very loyal kinda person, I loved every second of it despite myself.
Whenever hubby was working, I’d indulge and go out to meet my new love: His Triumph Bobber.

There was something about the way we were together – confident, powerful, utterly trusting one another when things got slippery. No slipping on the street, thanks to the ABS. Twice the power. And on top of it all, “he” looked as good as my rebuilt Intruder already looked, fresh out of the factory. Imagine what I could do if I changed a few things to suit my own taste…
I felt a bit guilty being unfaithful to my love, but I couldn’t help myself. Back then, I still loved my Intruder more and decided to keep it as an intermittent affair.

Then we moved to Portugal, and the affair ended courtesy of Portuguese import rules. Neither bike could come with us, so we sold them both. What followed was practical rather than my dream choice – we picked Triumphs for comfort, ease, and the price at the time. My choice was a Street Twin, which stayed with me for six years: reliable, easy to ride, the kind of bike that just gets on with it. Hass chose the Scrambler.
We took them with us to Malta, but importing them back to Portugal cost too much compared to what they were worth, and we left them behind to be sold.

My Intruder Binky and Hass' Bobber

Being back on the continent, we knew we couldn’t stay without motorcycles for long, and I still dreamed of a Bobber or cruiser. My Intruder was by now too old and too much work to start from scratch, so I already knew what I wanted next. The last few years had confirmed my fling with the Bobber and I just couldn’t choose something else as Hass confirmed we could restock our motor pool.

He actually found his new ride before I did mine and we went to look at it and agree with Miguel on a price and a pickup date. I was lucky; mine was in Lisbon proper and at a shop so they could right away do the paperwork for me and I could have taken him home if I wanted – but safety first; I needed to first give him some new shoes and let the shop check the oil and other fluids.

Thinking about it, I’m very happy that I was so fortunate I managed to own the car I dreamed of as a kid and was able to design my dream Intruder after. I can’t wait to pick up ” Bram Bob Stoker ” and start making him mine.
